Lazy Dog Ceramics

Following an illness that prevented Julia from working for a while, Julia discovered a love for pottery that made her realise that she was pursuing the wrong career in the first place!

Lucky enough to live in Cornwall and to benefit from all of the inspiration that the beautiful countryside and fascinating architecture can give, her first experience of throwing pots was at her local adult education centre and has since explored many techniques since then, including hand-building and sculpture as well as using the wheel. After a wide range of experiences, she is currently most passionate about Raku firing, which is an ancient Japanese technique involving the use of real flame and smoke to create a unique glaze effect. Although Raku dominates her interest at the moment, she also enjoys making conventionally fired stoneware and porcelain items, both decorative and functional pieces, and frequently personalises them as gifts for people’s birthdays and other celebrations, or even just for their pets!

At the heart of all of Julia's work is the fact that she likes to make things that make her smile - and she hopes that they make you smile too!
